August 2020
After several months of living in a shelter our first August family, a Momma bear & her two young children (a 6 year old boy and a 4 year old girl) were literally leaving with nothing but perseverance and hope to start their new life. Aisha was determined to stay on her feet and was thrilled to hear about The Fresh Start Project. We were thrilled to be able to support her!
Our Second Family
Yasmin and her 16 year old son left the shelter with literally nothing materialistic and with language being a barrier for them to start a new life in a new city. Upon delivering the generous donations from our Fresh Start team it was discovered that Yasmin had no furniture whatsoever - she was sleeping on the floor in a sleeping bag. The Fresh Start Project called upon our Downsizing Solutions partnership and the Clinton Howell team and within the week Yasmin’s apartment was outfitted with beds, a couch, table and chairs and a reading chair with footstool! The support that our community provided for this family made quite a heartwarming difference.
"The donations were very, very helpful, especially the kids’ stuff. The kids loved the toys and they were very excited to receive them. The items were helpful and useful for my family. All of the house hold items I needed for our new home. I also received a very thoughtful letter that included a gift card which was helpful to purchase additional items to start our new life in our new home.”
Our Third Family
"I am very grateful with the donations and also the transportation of the items to Guelph. I am very excited to decorate my apartment and also prepare my son’s room for his arrival. I couldn’t do this alone with my financial situation limited and language barrier. This is my first time to live by myself and my new place feels like my home. Thank you everyone and especially Sue who made me feel very comfortable throughout the process."
